What is the #CutsKill Digital Quilt?

The #CutsKill Quilt, inspired by the AIDS Memorial Quilt of the 1980s, was unveiled at the U.S. Capitol on September 5 as a powerful visual installation highlighting the lives at stake if federal HIV funding is cut. The quilt honors the past while warning Congress of the devastating consequences that could follow without immediate action to protect lifesaving care.

The #CutsKill Digital Quilt is an online extension of our Capitol Hill installation and action: a tangible visualization of community-created panels that name what’s at stake if Congress cuts HIV funding. #CutsKill Quilt sparked energy, press coverage, and needed conversation. This digital quilt turns our momentum into access and greater visibility. Anyone, anywhere, can add a square – survivors, providers, family, allies – so journalists, lawmakers, and our communities can see the scope and urgency in one place.

You can express yourself and let our leaders in Congress know that #CutsKill by submitting a panel to our virtual quilt. 

How to Submit Your Panel (2 Options)

Option A — Upload a Photo of a Physical Quilt Panel

  1. Shoot straight on. Lay the panel flat or hold it vertically. Avoid angled photos.
    1. Angled photos won’t allow us to fit your submissions in with the other quilts and may be difficult to read. 
    2. You can do this by laying the panel on the ground or by holding it up vertically. 
  2. Make it square. Leave room to crop; use your camera’s Square mode if available!
  3. Good light, minimal background. Keep the panel fully visible and readable.
  4. Upload a .jpg or .png using THIS FORM
  5. Approval window: Please allow 1–2 business days. Do not submit duplicates.

Option B — Create Your Own Digital Panel to Submit

  1. Use any creative app (Canva, Paint, etc.). You don’t need design experience!
  2. Use Square dimensions: at least 900 × 900 px.
  3. Background: either all black or a solid color – your call.
  4. Export as .jpg or .png and upload HERE.
  5. Approval window: 1–2 business days. Do not submit duplicates.

Tip: Keep text large and high-contrast. Short, bold messages read best in the grid.
